July 5, 2009 marks the complete upgrade and transformation of GetResponse - the popular autoresponder service I review in:

Best Autoresponder Review

As I use the new features, I’ll share my thoughts here. It will be a ‘living review’ so to speak – updated as I go along. So please bookmark this post so you don’t forget to return!

I use my GetResponse autoresponder account every day. Version 5  lacked a few features that I’ve wanted to try, like lightbox scripts. Version 6 adds lightboxes and many other new features, promising to make the service very flexible and innovative.

Some of the new features:

  • split testing
  • ability to add video and audio to your e-mail messages (wow!)
  • survey tool
  • light box scripts (finally! icon smile GetResponse 6 Review ) although I use and love the popup software by Robert Plank
  • all contact lists in one place for easy viewing – easier to access than in the previous version
  • e-mail analytics
  • enhanced sales tracking
  • full color pie charts and graphs for all stats
  • iphone integration

It sounds great, but only time and testing will determine whether the new GetResponse is as good or better than the old version.

In the meantime, bookmark this post, and if you want to see the service in action, subscribe to my FREE series ‘Success with WordPress’ either via the popup box that appears on this site or by entering your info into the box on the right hand side.

July 8 2009 update (soon after upgrade):

The new GetResponse interface is easier to use in many ways but the pricing has changed. In the past you could have more subscribers before paying more. Now the pricing structure is more like Aweber’s - if you have more than 500 subscribers the fee goes up. It isn’t unreasonable, but it should be noted. You also have to pay a little more if you want to use the video, audio and survey features. I’m considering that because they’re very appealing.

Some of my popups were not migrated from the old version. Tech support is still trying to resolve that.

August 3 2009 update:

Overall I still like the new interface. It’s much easier to navigate than the old version.

Most of my tech issues like the disappearing popups have been resolved. But I’m not keen on the default look of the lightboxes so I might use the optin box code and create an attractive one with software by Robert Plank .

August 14 Update

Tech support has not been as quick to help with a few of my issues (new ones that cropped up) but they aren’t ignoring me. I am guessing that more users are realising that they have problems post upgrade. I’m hoping my survey issue will be resolved soon. An estimated 1-2% of users are having issues, apparently, but I suspect it’s much higher.

October 12 Update

Errors have been corrected except for one – a glitch when copying contacts, but that is minor. I’m not sure if other users are having problems. Everything else seems to be functioning well. The upgrade was not a smooth one, lots of problems, clearly.

February 2010 Update

It took a long time for the GetResponse team to fully correct the error with copying contacts but it was finally resolved in December. I know of someone who is still having problems with their account. GR has had a good reputation for a long time and this upgrade was surprisingly problematic, but they seem to be back on track now.
